This past weekend, we held our 3rd Los Angeles OAS Conference Championships at Woodley Park in Van Nuys.  The event was hosted by the USC Archery Club headed up by Jessica Chen, President of the Club.  Jessica and her team did a terrific job organizing the event and we can’t thank them enough for all their help putting on this event.  Attendance increased this year with a new Middle School (ALDER) and High School (High Tech LA).

We started with a 36 arrow ranking round and saw a lot of high scores as archers jostled for the top ranking positions. On the Middle School side, Eduardo Fonseca (Almeria MS) took 1st place with a score of 323/360 for the boys.  New to the competition this year was Nathalie Chavez from Alder MS and Nathalie edged out Jennifer Venegas from Sequoia to take 1st place for the girls with a score of 301/360.  For the high schools, Matthew Rayco took the gold for Glendale HS with a 300/360 and Dalar Karimian (Glendale) maintained her place on the top of the podium from last year with a score of 275/360.

During the lunch break, the USC Archery team gave a demonstration shooting at the 70 meter target.  After lunch we ran the Team Matches.  For the Team Round each school submitted one or two teams comprised of 3 archers per team (mixed gender).  For Middle School we saw newcomers Alder MS take first place against rivals Sequoia MS from the Fontana Division.  For the High Schools, the Gold Medal match was between the two teams from Glendale, with Matthew, Dabin and Bryal taking first place with a score of 140.

As the team matches were taking place we had the Olympic Round matches.   From the rankings in the morning, each archer was put into a single elimination bracket for head to head matches.  It was a clean sweep for Alder MS with Denilson Jimenez taking the gold for the boys and Nathalie Chavez taking the gold for the girls.   Congratulations to Alder MS for a great job at their first competition.

For High School OR’s we saw a matchup between the number one and two ranked archers in the boy’s division with Matthew Rayco taking the gold with a score of 98.  Glendale’s Dalar Karimian took home a second gold medal of the day in the girls O.R. Division.

Thanks again to all of the schools for coming out for the competition and a big congratulations to all of the archers! Great shooting everyone!
