Olympic Round Matches during our 2012 CA State Championships

We are excited to announce that we will soon be sending out the 8 scoreboards to each of our schools competing in the OAS archery league. While simple in design, these scoreboards add another level of excitement to archery competitions. “It’s an easy way to engage both archers and spectators in the matches,” says OAS Supervisor, Keaton Chia. “Our league focuses on individual and team round matches so these are a great addition.”

By simply flipping over small panels, archers can display their score. We have seen both archers and parents having fun with them as they make a 30 or an LOL. Brad Freeman, coach of the Sequoia Middle School archery team, says that “scoring was an unknown part of our archery competitions because all of our archers kept score just on their paper scorecards. The fans and other archers didn’t know what the other scores were. Using the scoreboards updates everyone and brings the competition to the here and now. Our archers know if they are behind by 2 or 3 or vice versa. It brings the intensity up for every match now instead of when we used to just announce the scores at the end.”

The scoreboards will be sent out once the Divisions in your Conference are set. Please sign-up with your Conference Leader so that division assignments can be finalized. Contact information can be found on our League Page.

We will also include 80cm target faces which will be used for league games as well as all OAS championships. This change was made so that archers can more easily transition to other archery programs such as JOAD (Junior Olympic Archery Development). The larger, 122cm target faces should still be used with new archers as well as the OAS Mail-in Tournament.

We hope you and your team enjoy using these scoreboards! For questions, please contact Keaton Chia (kchia@esdf.org).
